Google Reviews Not Showing Up? Common Reasons and What to Do

A customer says they left you a review. You check your Google Business Profile.

Nothing.

No new rating. No new review. No update.

For a business owner, that’s frustrating. Reviews are not just vanity points. They affect trust, local visibility, and how future customers judge your business before they ever call, book, or walk in.

So if your Google reviews are not showing up, there are a few common reasons it may be happening.

Google may still be reviewing it

Not every Google review appears instantly.

Google says reviews may be checked before they appear, and in some cases this process can take a few days. That means a real customer may have submitted a review, but Google has not made it visible yet.

If the review is recent, give it some time before assuming it is gone.

The review may have triggered Google’s filters

Google uses automated systems to detect reviews that may violate its policies. That includes spam, inappropriate content, fake engagement, conflicts of interest, or content that looks suspicious.

Sometimes this is accurate.

Sometimes it is annoying.

A legitimate customer review can still get delayed or filtered if Google’s system thinks something about it looks off.

Common triggers may include:

  • Review text that sounds copied or unnatural
  • Multiple reviews from the same location or device
  • A customer adding links, photos, or unusual wording
  • A sudden spike in new reviews
  • Incentivized or requested reviews that appear manipulated
  • Reviews from accounts Google does not fully trust

Google’s goal is to keep reviews relevant and trustworthy, but the process can feel opaque from the business owner’s side. Google says reviews removed for policy violations generally will not be restored.

The review may violate Google’s content policies

If a review includes certain types of restricted content, Google may remove it or prevent it from showing publicly.

This can include spam, fake content, offensive language, personal information, sexually explicit content, irrelevant content, or other material Google does not allow on Maps.

This is why some reviews disappear even if they were originally visible.

The customer may think they posted it. You may even have seen it briefly. Then it vanishes.

Your Business Profile may have changed recently

If your Google Business Profile was recently edited, merged, verified, suspended, reinstated, or updated, reviews may not display normally right away.

Google specifically notes that when Business Profiles are merged, it may take a few days for reviews from both profiles to appear on Search and Maps.

Business profile changes can create temporary weirdness. That does not always mean the reviews are permanently gone.

The customer may be seeing it, but the public is not

This is one of the most frustrating versions.

A customer may say, “I can see the review on my account,” but when you check from another device, it does not appear publicly.

That usually means the review is visible to the reviewer but not fully published to everyone else. In other words, it exists, but it is not helping your public reputation.

For business owners, the only thing that really matters is whether future customers can see it.

What should you do if Google reviews are missing?

Start simple.

Wait a few days if the review was just submitted. Ask the customer to make sure their Google Maps app is updated. Google notes that older phones or software can cause issues when customers try to leave reviews.

Then check your Business Profile from a different device or browser. Look at your review count, recent reviews, and public-facing listing.

If the review still does not show, avoid asking the customer to repost the exact same thing over and over. That can look unnatural and may make the problem worse.

Instead, focus on building a steady flow of legitimate reviews over time.

Do not panic over one missing review

One missing Google review is annoying.

A pattern of missing reviews is different.

If multiple customers say they left reviews and none are appearing, that is worth paying attention to. It may point to a profile issue, review filter issue, unusual review activity, or a broader visibility problem.

This is where tracking matters.

You do not want to find out weeks later that your best reviews never became public.
